Dr. Robert Mauss
Born and raised in Adams County Pennsylvania, Dr. Mauss’s initial desire was to be a high school math teacher. He graduated Shippensburg University in 1992 with a Mathematics BSEd. After a few years of substitute teaching he changed direction towards the medical field. After completing 3 more years of pre-med course work he was accepted to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he graduated in 2003. He completed a Family Medicine residency at Memorial Hospital in York, PA. Wanting to further his skills and knowledge in osteopathic manipulation, he then moved to Bangor Maine to complete a 1 year fellowship in Neuromusculo-skeletal Medicine. Always having an underlying drive to explore different paths, he began taking courses in Functional Medicine in 2012.
These included further education in Cardiology, Immunology, Gastroenterology, Hormone therapy and Detoxification. While applying both his osteopathic manipulation skills and his knowledge of Functional Medicine, he began to recognize a virtual epidemic of unrecognized Lyme disease in his patients. This led to further education into diagnosis and management of Lyme disease through ILADS – the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society.
Today Dr. Mauss interweaves conventional medicine, Osteopathic Manipulation, Functional Medicine and Lyme Disease management into a very eclectic and successful medical practice.
Dr. Catherine Mauss
I was introduced to medicine at an early age while growing up in Hockessin, Delaware. My parents are both physicians and they inspired me not only to become a doctor, but also taught me how important hard work, dedication, and kindness are in the practice of medicine and in life. I graduated with a BA in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. I was introduced to osteopathic medicine during my college years and felt a connection to its focus on treating the patient as a whole, not just as a collection of symptoms. I was excited to be accepted into the class of 2003 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I received my doctorate of osteopathy and then completed an internship and family practice residency at Memorial Hospital in York PA. I practiced family medicine from 2006-2021 in an FQHC setting (Federally Qualified Health Care Center). In 2019, I was honored to receive the APEX Patient Choice Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers. This award meant so much to me because it came through nominations from my patients.
Outside of medicine, my family is my main focus. I met my husband, Rob, in medical school. We spent 2 years living in Bangor, Maine, where our first daughter Isabel was born, and then returned to his hometown of Biglerville, PA. Less than 2 years later, our second daughter Grace was born. We enjoy living in Adams County and raising our daughters here. During the pandemic, we added another member to our family: a chocolate lab, Teddy, who has enough energy for all of us. I like being outdoors and traveling with my family. We were lucky to travel to Hawaii and Ireland before COVID, but our other favorite spot is Ocean City, MD. I also like reading (the library is one of my favorite places), watching baking show competitions (I am NOT a baker, but am amazed at the talent of those who are), and running. Opening up my own practice alongside my husband has been a longtime dream.
